Hey everyone!
So, let me tell you about how this trip to Ghana became a thing! It all started with my mom and her mission to make sure I know where I come from. We've been to the National Museum of African American History and Culture in DC four times. We learned about our African kingdoms before slavery, the transatlantic slave trade, and how we fought for our freedoms. I must say, the art and music sections were the best! They really showed how talented our people are.
But wait, there's more! I've actually been to Africa, once. I went to Egypt and saw the Pyramids, explored Cairo, Luxor, and Aswan. It was mind-blowing! Ancient temples, pharaoh sculptures, tombs of kings and queens – it was like stepping back in time!
Now, here's where Ghana comes in. My mom always told me that it's a super important place for us. It's where our ancestors last set foot before they got forced onto slave ships. She always said that going back to Ghana would be like fulfilling their wildest dream – making the journey back home. And guess what? We did an Ancestry DNA test, and boom! Confirmed our Ghanaian ancestry!
Like manifest destiny, I recently found out that there's this incredible trip to Ghana happening in July 2024 with my youth group. We're gonna check out the Nkrumah Mausoleum Art Center, W.E.B. Dubois Center, Independence Square, and even visit Elmina Castle and "The Door of No Return." And that's just the beginning! We'll hit up Kakum National Park and Aburi Botanical Garden too. It will be mind-blowing!
But, you know how it is with travel, right? It can be expensive. I'm so grateful for my mom and Tutu for always making it possible for me to explore different cultures. But this time, I wanna make a real contribution to fund this once-in-a-lifetime trip.
I thought about how I could raise money. And I decided that I could make some cool t-shirts! That way, my supporters get a great keepsake while helping me accomplish my goal!
The website is built, the first t-shirts, hoodie, and tote are ready. So now, I'm asking for your support! Help me make this dream a reality, and spread the word!
Humbly thank you,
-Chris
